Two hikers found by rescuers from camping trip
Two hikers have been found unhurt northwest of Nederland, Colorado who were overdue returning from an overnight camping trip.
Patrick Nelson and Sean Klomparens, a Boulder County sheriff’s officials set out Saturday with plans to climb South Arapahoe Peak and they expected to return to Nelson’s parents home in Windsor by 5 p.m. Sunday.

Camping at Beeds Lake State Park
North Iowa Campgrounds, despite some up and down season. A park manager at Beeds Lake State Park is ready to up a new label on camping and it would be nice to see when finished.
The baseball is no longer America’s pastime but it’s camping that was said by Denny Ewers, a manager of the park near Hampton. In the past 30 years, there are more campers in the last couple of years than the past 30 years. Denny Ewers observe and seen that.
“Attendance in 2008 has been really average, have shown increases in numbers of campers. The first part of the season has been a little bit down, not a lot but a little”, according to Ewers. Josh Rembe ranger at Clear Lake State Park with Ewers’ analysis, even though Clear Lake State Park serves a broader user base. He estimated at 80 percent of the campers that visit Beeds Lake live within 20-25 miles of the campground.
Rembe says “I think we might be down just a little bit this year compared to years past. Spring wasn’t a good spring weatherwise for camping”. The gas prices increases, June flooding and local activities have all played in the number of campers seen on the weekend fall out from. Rembe observe the schedules and number of people at the Independence Day Weekend, it was busy at Clear Lake State Park.
Rembe said “The fourth of July is always a huge weekend, but we were full two weeks prior. I’ve never seen that before”. Tammy Domonoske, park manager at McIntosh Woods State Park noticed many of the same early July like what Rembe says.
During her three trips to Minnesota campgrounds this summer, Domonoske said she couldn’t help but notice the large amount of tent campers compared to North Iowa’s campgrounds, which tend to have more recreational vehicle camping. People there just throw their tent in a van and head out.
Camping at Caney Creek Loops Open
Since Rita hit three years ago, The Camp sites at Caney Creek have been closed, until now. It’s been a clean up project, removing timber and debris and getting the camping loops back to working order.
Eddie Gray, a District Ranger says “We’d have liked for it to have been open in 6 months, but it just wasn’t possible, especially when you’re dealing with contracts and public money, but we’re trying to do the best we can with it”.
The Camping cost $3 a night and is on a first come, first server basis. RV’s are welcome, but there are no hookups available. Is also open the boat ramp at Caney Creek
