Camping on holidays you need to remember the some things around food safety and hand hygiene.
Trent Fowles, manager of Population Health Service’s Health Protection Unit said When people going to camping, usually bring their favorite barbecue which brings potential for food poisoning, then they are also living in close proximity to one another and do not have adequate refrigeration capacity or readily available hand washing facilities.
He said that Summer is a good time to remember and follow the rules against food poisoning incidences. The New Zealand Food Safety Authority calls for vigilance this summer with cooking hygiene, clean, cook, chill cover as a good start to summer food safety.
Clean
- Keep all food clean and contact areas.
- Wipe away any meat juices and always use clean chopping boards.
- Keep pets aways from Barbecues
Cook
- until the juices run clear then cook
Chill
- if you cooking at home, remember keep foods refrigerated until ready to cook or serve. Use chilli bins and ice packs to keep foods cold if there is not limited space.
- Refrigerate and cover to keep them safe to eat.
- Foods must be covered and at room temperatures for more than two hours. If in doubt, just throw it out.
Cover
- Remember keep foods covered and away from any contamination.
Mr Fowles said “In fact, thorough hand washing is the most effective way to stop the spread of infectious disease.”
Tips for People:
If someone have symptoms of being unwell, they should never take part in preparing food and even hand washing is more important for them.

Brad Wall defends the camping fee hikes
The announcement of camping fees on season and nightly in provincial parks are increases. Premier Brad Wall defends the camping fee hikes, but he said government might one day rid of park entry fees.
Wall said to the reporters on his way into a cabinet meeting in Regina “I think whoever the government was, fees were going to change. 2009 Truck Series Schedule
NASCAR announced Mansfield Motorsports Park on the 2009 Camping World Truck Series schedule requested that Iowa Speedway will replace Motorsports Park due to economic difficulties.
Mansfield, OH hosted a Truck Series race each year since 2004, and had an event scheduled for May 23. The event be moved from its track because of its inability to meet the requirements.

The notice: “Due to the economic times that we are all facing, Mansfield Motorsports Park will not be hosting the 2009 NASCAR Truck Race. We will begin processing refunds immediately. Mansfield’s date will move to September 5 at Iowa
Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR Vice President of racing operations said in the statement “It is always exciting to go to a new venue and show the fans what the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is all about. “The Midwest has some of our sport’s most loyal fans, and Iowa Speedway produces some incredible racing as we’ve seen with the NASCAR Camping World East and West Series. We look forward to racing there this season.”
A Nationwide Series race on August 1 for the first time 7/8 track.
Camping fee increase at Saskatchewan provincial parks
Opposition MLA John Nilson said the Saskatchewan Party that it would keep affordable rates camping for residents of the province at Saskatchewan parks after forming government late last year but yet on Friday announced a fee hikes or increase without a clear explanation.
Christine Tell, a Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister argued there is reason behind the changes which include a $2 increase of a daily camping fee, reservation service fee its double to $10, and 7$ a new charge when reservations are changed.
The costs of seasonal camping including the increase from $830 to $1,500 for those with electricity that located near Washroom Services Centres. Tell said Friday “People thought maybe it’s so cheap that maybe we were not going to come and visit the parks”. On Monday, she said that she had done a poor job of explaining what the government’s doing.
The fee increase have also been critized as hypcritical by the NDP because the Sask. The announces of the fee increases last Friday will mean $1.25 million more government each year.
Camping licenses 2009 is now available
2009 for Camping, Fishing and Hunting annual permits and licenses in state parks will be available starting on December 15, 2008. The permits and licenses is now available on the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Website at www.kdwp.state.ks.us, or at any regular license vendor. List of organized by country or vendors is alos available on the website under the department.
Some vendors can sell only temporary vehicle and camping permits, but the permits can be exchanged at office of park for permanent permits.
The Camping Reservations for the 2009 season at Wilson State Park can be made starting Jan. 5, provides walk-in reservations priority over phone-in reservations.

Texas Parks & Wildlife offer camping workshops
The Texas Parks & Wildlife officials would like to open the camping workshops by introducing families to the joys of overnight camping.
So, this winter weekend camp outs with bilingual instruction on camping skills at several South Texas state parks. The fee is cost $55 for families with up to six people.
The Workshops will be scheduled the following:
- Jan. 10 to 11 at Goose Island State Park near Rockport.
- Jan. 24 to 25 at Bentsen Rio Grande State Park near Mission
- Feb. 7 to 8 at Casa Blanca International State Park near Laredo.
You will learn a lot of skills such as tent pitching, outdoor cooking, fire building, kayaking, fishing and how to use a GPS to navigate the trails. You can also learn about conservation and get a glimpse into the life of a park ranger.
Those who want to attend, the families must provide their own food, sleeping bags, and personal items. And also all the necessary gear such as cooking equipment, tents, GPS units, kayaks and tackle also will be furnished.
The vision for this training program is that families will enjoy the experience to try it on their own and start a camping tradition to pass along with.

Camping Fees at Ottumwa Park may increase
The fees for camping in Ottumwa Park might be increase whether you use a tent or a recreational vehicle. The possible increases are on the Park Advisory Boards agenda for today at 4:30PM in Room 108, City Hall.
Gene Rathje, Park Director prepared a “proposed fee changes” sheet that includes The Beach Ottumwa and The Ottumwa Park Campground
Recreational vehicles will increase from $13.50 to $15 and Tent camping fees would increase from $8 to $9.
At The Beach Ottumwa, some fees will decrease and can be rounded off so they’re easier for staff and customers to handle.
For example, the regular admission for someone 48 inches and taller is $9.58, the proposed fee is should $9.
For those under 48 inches tall is the same method the proposed fee is rounded off and the dry spectator $4.23, rounded off to $4.
In any decision by the Park Advisory Board will be forwarded to Ottumwa City Council for approval. The park meeting will be open to the public.

Camping in City Activist Return to Victoria
A City camping activist return to Victoria’s Centennial Square Sunday, Kristen Woodruff and David Arthur with a tent in despite of police removing tents from the area last week. The city currently allows in city parks temporary shelters from 7PM to 7AM only.
