No overnight camping in City Park during DNC
Mayor John Hickenlooper and the City of Denver announced that there will be no camping at night in City Park during the Democratic National Convention. City rules prohibit camping in the park and it will close at 11 p.m each night. Hickenlooper will turn on the sprinklers if people stay past the closing time.
The “Tent State University” group had received a permit to set up camp in the park. Almost 20,000 people will be there during the convention.
Carla Madison of the Denver City Council said “At this point, we’ve never let anybody camp in our parks including the Boy Scouts, so it’s nothing political, it’s just something the city doesn’t allow.”
Adam Jung of Tent State University said “we don’t want to see people sleeping in the neighborhoods. We don’t want to see people sleeping on the street.”
