Berrima Camping Ban

Last year the Council banned camping on the reserve after the Department of Lands advised that the land was not properly designated as a camping area. Council and behalf of the State Government was managed the Crown Land.

The Friends of the Berrima Reserve Campground (FBRC) believe there are other reasons behind the ban and plan to grill at a public meeting at the Berrima Anglican Hall with Mayor Duncan and other Councilors at 7pm tomorrow.

FBRC members support the proposal which allow to use of the reserve as a primitive camping ground, use of existing facilities including toilets, picnic shelter and barbecues.

According to resident Page Coulson “It’s a nice Australian thing, on a summer holiday, to just doss down. We have had family barbecues here, but we can’t come after 6pm now because the gate is locked and we can’t come in.”

Resident Easther Voorwinden said there were few things more Australian than taking families on a bush camping trips. She said “By closing the reserve is as “unAustralian” a thing as the council has ever done.”

The reserve allows travellers to stop, then go in the town and residents enjoy having them in the campping ground.
