Rules for marroning and camping
As an early of 2009 marron season started. The Water Corporation is to remind people that marroning, camping and other recreational activities are not permitted in drinking water catchment areas.
The places prohibited are Boyup Brook, Hester, Greenbushes, Manjimup, Millstream, Mount Jones, Phillips Creek, Kirup and Quinninup dams and Lefroy Weir in Pemberton.
Scott Moorhead, Regional business manager said that most locals did the right thing but tourists should not be aware that catchment protection zones were bounds out.
Mr Moorhead said “We would like to make people aware that access to drinking water catchments is prohibited. If you enter a catchment protection zone, you may face a hefty fine. Our rangers will patrol drinking water catchment areas during the marron season to ensure local drinking water quality isn’t threatened. “I ask everyone to please read all warning signs and follow their directions carefully if you approach a water source to avoid entering a prohibited area.”
Mr Moorhead also said that recreation at many south west irrgation dams was permitted such as Wellington, Harvey, Logue Brook, Waroona, and Glen Mervyn dams, which were popular destinations for campers and marroners.
