Camping fee increase at Saskatchewan provincial parks

Opposition MLA John Nilson said the Saskatchewan Party that it would keep affordable rates camping for residents of the province at Saskatchewan parks after forming government late last year but yet on Friday announced a fee hikes or increase without a clear explanation.

Christine Tell, a Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister argued there is reason behind the changes which include a $2 increase of a daily camping fee, reservation service fee its double to $10, and 7$ a new charge when reservations are changed.

The costs of seasonal camping including the increase from $830 to $1,500 for those with electricity that located near Washroom Services Centres. Tell said Friday “People thought maybe it’s so cheap that maybe we were not going to come and visit the parks”. On Monday, she said that she had done a poor job of explaining what the government’s doing.

The fee increase have also been critized as hypcritical by the NDP because the Sask. The announces of the fee increases last Friday will mean $1.25 million more government each year.

    WOW! These parks (every one of them) has a waiting list for seasonal site! How, with a waiting list of over 100 applicants at each park, can this above statement be justified! Call it what it is, a money grab… One more question. Why did the “camp fire” fee go away? What was the reasoning for that? I believe, at one point, the Sask Party was angry with the NDP for recrational activities (such as camping)being too expensive! Just so we are all clear, I would rather pay the 25$ fire fee rather than the 670$ seasonal rate increase.
