Texas Parks & Wildlife offer camping workshops

The Texas Parks & Wildlife officials would like to open the camping workshops by introducing families to the joys of overnight camping.

So, this winter weekend camp outs with bilingual instruction on camping skills at several South Texas state parks. The fee is cost $55 for families with up to six people.

The Workshops will be scheduled the following:

- Jan. 10 to 11 at Goose Island State Park near Rockport.
- Jan. 24 to 25 at Bentsen Rio Grande State Park near Mission
- Feb. 7 to 8 at Casa Blanca International State Park near Laredo.

You will learn a lot of skills such as tent pitching, outdoor cooking, fire building, kayaking, fishing and how to use a GPS to navigate the trails. You can also learn about conservation and get a glimpse into the life of a park ranger.

Those who want to attend, the families must provide their own food, sleeping bags, and personal items. And also all the necessary gear such as cooking equipment, tents, GPS units, kayaks and tackle also will be furnished.

The vision for this training program is that families will enjoy the experience to try it on their own and start a camping tradition to pass along with.
