Camping trip using Treetent
London camper enjoy camping trip in the tree trunk. The Treetent, a cross between a tent and a tree house. It’s not quite the same as sleeping in a tree house. Dre Wapenaar, Dutch sculptor sees his creation more than just a novel of camping equipment or kit. A piece of art, he says. The tree tent is portable. Wapenaar in his over 20 years professional experience artist, but the inspiration for creating tents stretches remember to his childhood.
Wapenaar told to CNN “I started building them when I was a kid. We had a competition in the neighborhood to build the coolest tent”. Wapenaar graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts in Tilburg, Holland in 1986. He set up his own studio in Rotterdam the following year. He describes his sculptures as exploration of artistic on how groups of people and individual relate to one another.
He said that people from all over the world are coming to Holland and live, so you can make a new forms of living together. The tent is a nice metaphor. His first designed Treetent not for a campsite but for a group of UK environmental activists who were hoping to frustrate a road building program through protected Woodland. In his interest sculptures particularly the Treetent has kept on growing. Wapenaar selling a lot of Treetent camping equipment, he still receives hundreds of emails every year from people likely to buy his Treetent. But it is not a commercially available product, the price or cost of Treetent is 30,000 Euros.
His collection has grown into an elegant and diverse range of sculptures including kiosks, bivouacs, villages and pavilions. The Recital Pavilion in his most recent creation was unveiled at this year’s Poetry International Festival in Rotterdam and reinforces of Wapenaar’s commitment to explore human communication through his art.
