Aspiring rapper drowns in Lake Camanche during camping trip

Rahru Walker Jr. who dreamed of becoming a music producer drowned in Lake Camanche during camping trip, it was on Saturday (Aug. 16, 2008) with his church. He’s a 19 year old Stockton man, aspiring rapper and producer, a former student at Cesar Chavez High School, the teen was attending San Joaquin Delta College to earn his general education degree, said his mother. Walker was on retreat with Restoration for Life MInistries at the south side of the Lake.

Saturday, after 1 p.m, he attempted to swim lengthy portion of the lake be he didn’t get back to shore, according to the Calavares County Sheriff’s Department. Sgt. Dave Seawell said “He was swimming alone, and he was not accomplished swimmer”.

His friends called to the dive team (Sheriff’s dive tea), was dispatched at 1:30 p.m. They end up searching until 9 p.m. Saturday but they failed to find Walker’s body. They attempted to resumed a dive search at 8 a.m. Sunday, and recovered Walker’s body at 9:40 a.m.

Walker is the third person who drowned in Lake Camanche this year, the other two occurring in June. His mother said, he created music beats that he sold to several Bay Area rappers for income. He liked basketball, but music was the most important thing to him, he liked to do a lot of things. He never gave his mother problems for 19 years. He is a good boy who wanted to touch other people through music.

Jacqueline Ashley, his aunt said before he attempting to swim the lengthy stretch of water he ate large lunch, several of his friends already had accomplished. He was started swimming to the other side, and he told his friends he wanted to turn around but he never made it back.

The water deep is around 20 to 30 feet. The witness heard that Walker’s scream for help from shore, reported to authorities. The dive team is based in San Andreas. When they get to the lake it takes about 30 minutes. Walker’s family is trying to raise money to help for funeral costs.
