George Wyth campground remains closed for camping
George Wyth Officials approached contractors to continue repair facilities damaged by June flooding in the rest of the 2008 camping season. The park is open to bicyclists, boaters, hikers and picnickers. They hoped to open the camping ground in late August for a few weeks of camping but reassessment of the situation was less optimistic.

Lori Eberhard, park manager said “In all likelihood, we will not be open for camping this year”. It needs to have an electrical and other work completed of the rest room building at the campground (camping ground). But contractors are scheduled with other flood related jobs, and officials wants to finished as soon as possible when crews will begin their work at the park.
Eberhard said “There are also people need these contractors to be working on their houses, but it’s conflict the time or schedule to be working in state park. To put it in perspective, that’s more important to get people back into their houses than for us to have a campground this year”.It remains closed the swimming area at George Wyth State Park.
It was damaged by floods the concession building at the swimming area. “It’s for safety. We don’t want people trying to get into places where they could endanger themselves and others,” Eberhard said. Swimming may be closed for a portion of next year too. The beach sand has been rearranged by flood water.
George Wyth, was one of the hardest hit state parks during floods, which abuts the Cedar River. In late July after cleanup efforst with the help of staff and volunteers.
