Illegal Camping on Allegheny River Islands
Allegheny River in Harmar - The state DCNR or Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has begun an investigation into illegal camping and motorized vehicle use on Allegheny Island State Park.
They investigate to those people from using the islands by individuals who have set up camps in Allegheny River in Harmar without a permission.
The Allegheny Islands State Park is accessible only by boat and yet to developed. Camping is only with the written permission of the DCNR and permitted by organized groups.
Mary Lorah, DCNR regional manager said “In the past we have had scout groups and other organized groups utilize the park with special agreements, however the complaints we are now receiving appear to be that individuals are camping on the island without permission and keeping others from enjoying the park”.
There are no public facilities and the DCNR doesn’t have plans to develop the islands. The islands has total land area of 43 acres. The one island is in upriver from Lock and Dam no. 3 and the other two island are downriver from the dam.
